Evaluation: Question 4 - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

 Transcript:

Web 2.0 describes World Wide Web sites that emphasize user-generated content and usability. The term was popularized by Tim O'Reilly and Dale Dougherty at the O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 Conference in late 2004, though it was coined by Darcy DiNucci in 1999.

Throughout the years there has been a significant rise in technologies, this is because of web 2.0. Before web 2.0 things were uploaded onto the internet and we just consumed, however, now thanks to technologies like Blogger and YouTube we are now known as prosumers. People can now make, distribute and promote their own media texts. Thanks to this coursework assignment I am now known as a web 2.0 creator. This means that I am not just a consumer of media but also a prosumer. Web 2.0 technologies are also very important to companies or people like me that are producing a low budget film. This is because most of the market and distribution technologies used are free. Another thing that is important to the distribution of the film is social networking. This is because it spreads word of new things very quickly and to different parts of the world. For example posting something on Facebook allows people to like, comment and share it. Enabling it to get further on different social networks, this creates more interest around your product. Also if companies like myself and my group are aiming for a younger demographic then it is likely that social networking will become a huge help in the distribution of not only your trailer but also the magazine and film poster.

Throughout my coursework module I have used many technologies to create my work to the best of my ability.

First of all I used a Panasonic camera in order to film the footage that will later be used in our trailer. This camera was useful as it filmed high quality footage and recorded sound.

Next, I used Premiere Pro to edit the footage and bring it all together to make my trailer. This was a useful app as it allowed me to do many creative things and put lots of effects on the footage enabling it to seem spooky and converge with our target audience.

I used Adobe Photoshop to create my film poster and magazine cover. This was a useful technology as it was free and allowed you to do many creative editing techniques enabling you to get the desired horror effect.

Throughout my coursework I used blogger to store all of my coursework on, this makes it public allowing everyone to see my completed work. Blogger is very simple to use and publishes work well, blogger also allows you to incorporate other software such as YouTube, Prezi, FlipSnack and many others.

I used Prezi to present some of my work. It enabled me to create a presentation but also keep to the horror theme, it was also incredibly easy to use.

Flipsnack, is another way I published work on my blog. It enabled me to create an interactive flipbook and made my blog more interesting overall. Again it was very easy to use and is free.

This year I used more technologies on my blog, in order for it to improve from last year.

SurveyMonkey was incredibly useful in my coursework, as it enabled me to create an online questionnaire and also allowed me to gather feedback in charts and bar graphs. This is something I found very useful in my project as it gathered audience feedback quickly and effectively.

YouTube has been important in my coursework, and has enabled me to embed videos on my blog as part of my coursework evaluation questions. It is also where our finished trailer was published to the public. YouTube gives the trailer a platform to be viewed and shared by an audience.

Throughout my use of these technologies, I have developed my knowledge of software. Also my creativity has improved from last year. One technology I found the most useful throughout my coursework module was blogger, this is because I have been using it for two years now and feel like I have gained knowledge that will help me later in life.
